Memorial service held for homeless man Kane Walker

  • A memorial service was held at Birmingham's Catholic Cathedral this weekend to remember homeless man Kane Walker and to pray for his soul

Kane Walker was just 31 when he died at the end of January after years of sleeping rough.

During the service Father Tim Menezes spoke directly to those in the congregation who were homeless.

To those who are here today who are homeless, we recognise that homelessness does not define you. Your knowledge and your wisdom and your experience defines you. Your capacity to love and be loved define you.

– Fr Tim Menezes

Passers-by found Kane's body under Smallbrook Queensway, just a short walk from the Bullring shopping centre.

A march was held around Birmingham city centre last week in memory of Kane but to also call for more to be done to help rough sleepers.

Today's mass is being held in memory of and for the repose of the soul of Mr Kane Walker who died on the streets while he was rough sleeping at the age of 31 without a roof over his head.
