Funeral day plans for Gordon Banks

Plans for the funeral of World Cup winning goalkeeper and former Stoke and Leicester City player, Gordon Banks, have been confirmed. Credit: PA

The funeral will take place at Stoke Minster on Monday 4th March at 1:30pm.

The cortege will travel on an hour-long 10-mile route through the city from the bet365 Stadium to Stoke Minster – via the old Victoria Ground.

Hundreds of people are expected to pay their respects to Banks who is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.

The bet365 Stadium will open at 11.30am and the funeral cortege will arrive at the ground at 11.45am.

Attendees will be able to celebrate Gordon’s life and watch the funeral service live on the big screens in the ground. The service will also be streamed live on the club’s website.

The cortege will leave the stadium at 12.15pm, and will follow a 10-mile route through the city, pausing at the site of the former Victoria Ground and going through the one-way system in Stoke town to Stoke Minster in Glebe Street. The cortege will arrive at the Minster at 1.15pm.

There will be a number of road closures in place for the proceedings and they can be found via www.roadworks.org/?tmi=9205944.

Any members of the public wishing to bring floral or other tributes are advised to take them to the statue of Gordon Banks at the stadium.
