Knives found near children's play area during random police search

Police in Coventry have been sweeping parks as part of a national knife crime operation called Op Sceptre.

They recovered several weapons which included a kitchen bread knife and a small saw in bushes near a children's playground.

A play park can be a popular place to stash weapons. Sweeping parks is just one way the police are trying to deal with knives.

Local councillor Jim O'Boyle says more needs to be done:

We need to have a concerted attempt to actually bring back some of our local services, young people serbice,s we need also to make sure we have proper drug rehabiliation services and we need also more police on the beat.
