A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a five-year-old boy who suffered injuries in a house fire last year.

The boy died in the early hours of Thursday (21 March) following the incident on November 15 on Wentworth Road in Rugby, Warwickshire Police said.

A 21-year-old man from Rugby was arrested on the same day as the incident and a 28-year-old woman, also from Rugby, was arrested in January on suspicion of arson.

Police have said they will both remain on police bail until April.

The boy had been admitted to hospital with substantial burns after the fire, a spokesman for the force said.

We're sad to report that the boy injured in the fire has died and as a result this has now become a murder investigation. We remain committed to establishing the exact circumstances leading up to the fire and continue to appeal to the public for any information that could help with our investigation."
