An outbuilding at a primary school in Coventry has had its walls and roof destroyed after a gas explosion this morning.

It happened at the John Gulson Primary School on George Street in Foleshill.

No pupils were at the school at the time, but a gas company worker has suffered flash burns.

West Midlands Fire Station dispatched three fire trucks and a water carrier.

"I was just standing on the corner with my mate and I heard a loud bang, I thought it came from the scrapyard at first but then I saw a thick black cloud of smoke coming from the school.

Police came straight away, and then ambulance and the fire service with a platform.

It’s a shame for the school. It’s a good job the kids weren’t there".
