Among the councils to count votes during daylight hours will be Herefordshire. For twelve years, it has been ruled by the Conservatives, but change could be afoot! The main opposition party is called "It's Our County", which had nine councillors before today. There were also nine independent councillors, and four Greens. In the run-up to yesterday's vote they joined together in an electoral pact called "Herefordshire Alliance". In theory, they could topple the Conservative administration with just three gains from them.
It was a bad night for the Conservatives and Labour as votes were counted in the Midlands' local council elections.
After a year relying on the casting vote of the mayor, the Conservatives now have an outright majority on Walsall Council.
