A pensioner in his 80s, who was in a wheelchair, died after falling into a lake at a popular beauty spot in Stoke-on-Trent.
Emergency services were called after the man fell into Westport Lake on Sunday morning.
He was pulled from the water by members of the public and rushed to hospital, where he died a few hours later, Staffordshire Police confirmed.
Police said there were believed to be no suspicious circumstances and formal identification was due to take place.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS doctor and a community first responder.
"On arrival we found one patient, a man, who was in a serious condition.
"He received specialist trauma care at the scene and was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital."
