There's a distinct lack of support for the HS2 rail project in the Midlands, according to an exclusive poll for ITV News Central.

The new Prime Minister says it could cost as much as £100bn and it’s already been a decade in the making.

But the YouGov survey has found that a majority in the Midlands either opposes HS2, or has no strong opinion.

26%
are supportive of HS2 and just 8% describe themselves as strong supporters.
63%
of those questioned believe HS2 will not be value for money.

But despite strong opposition to HS2, a clear majority (52%) think it is important to have more capacity on trains between the Midlands and London - a key argument in favour of HS2. Just 12% think it’s unimportant.

The polling also reveals scepticism that the project will even happen.

34%
don't believe phase one of HS2 between London and Birmingham will be completed.
