A mum from Derbyshire who was nearly 22 stone at her heaviest was inspired to lose almost ten stone so that she could play with her children.

Sam Holmes struggled to play with her adopted young twins, Hunter and Francheska because of the weight.

The 33-year-old who lives in Littleover, says she was inspired to lose weight in early 2017 because she wanted to be fit enough to enjoy walks and play hide-and-seek with her young children.

She lost 9st 8.5lbs in less than two years, reaching her target weight by September 2018.

Sadly Sam's son, Hunter, who had cerebral palsy, died at the age of three in October last year.

Sam says she's grateful that her weight loss allowed her to make the most of the time she had with him.

I wanted to make the best of the time we have, because we don't all have forever, which is very apparent in our lives now.

It is important to make every second count, and I knew I needed to be better and healthier, as a role model to set an example for the twins.

Sam, who worked at a nursery in Littleover for 13 years, spoke about her previous eating habits and how she lost the weight after joining a local Slimming World group.

I've always been on the bigger side, and as the twins came, Hunter didn't sleep brilliantly and I turned to unhealthily eating for convenience.

I've been at my target weight for almost a year now, it took just under two years to lose the weight.

Hunter when he was here was non-mobile, but we would go for long walks with him in the pushchair, and Francheska would walk along.

Healthy eating is 80% of what I do, and all my walking has a massive effect too. I might not be spending hours upon end at a gym, but it is activity.
