Man charged after police slashed with knife

A 37-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences after a police officer was stabbed in Derby.

The officer suffered slash injuries on the face as he attempted to detain a man in the Slack Lane area at around 10pm on Tuesday night (15 October).

Richard Jefford of no fixed abode has been charged with robbery, wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage, and two counts of possessing class A drugs.

Jefford was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (17 October).

The police officer has since been discharged from hospital.
