Human bones found on the site of a former care home

White forensic tent covering the site of where human bones were discovered

Human bones have been found on the site of a former care home in Leicestershire.

Police were called to a site off Scalford Road, Melton Mowbray at around 3.30pm on Thursday (17 October).

The former Catherine Dalley House site currently is being developed, but work has been halted after the bones were discovered.

A white tent which is surrounded by diggers was erected in the middle of the site by officers as they carried out their investigation.

Police have said they are unable to comment on if the bones belong to one or more people as the inquiry was still in its 'early stages'.

"A small quantity of human remains have been found at this stage which have been confirmed as being human bones. Work is now being carried out to determine the length of time they have been in the ground.

“Enquiries are in the very early stages and it will be a lengthy process to establish the full circumstances of this finding.

“At this stage, the findings are not being linked to any other current ongoing investigation.”
