The former Thomas Cook shop at the Merry Hill shopping centre reopened today under the Hays Travel brand.

Hays bought all 555 of Thomas Cook's high street stores after the 178 year old company went bust on September 23.

It failed to secure a last-minute rescue deal to keep the business afloat.

The company's collapse also left 150,000 customers stranded abroad. Workers back at their desks today and customers were delighted.

It's incredible in the Midlands area that we've opened 30 stores in less than 11 days which I think is an incredible record for opening stores.

It's amazing to be part of this journey and brand new chapter in the industry.
