Body found in search for missing fisherman

A body has been found during a search of the River Dove for a missing fisherman.

Roger Wheat, 79, was last seen fishing from the River Dove near to Ellastone bridge on Tuesday (7 December) afternoon.

He was wearing a brown Barbour jacket, dark coloured trousers and wellington boots.

Police had cordoned off part of the river to conduct a co-ordinated search and divers were brought in.

Today, they confirmed they had called off the search after discovering the body of a man.

The body is believe to be that of Roger Wheat and his family have been informed.

Formal identification of the body is due to take place.

"We would like to thank colleagues, partner agencies and the public for their assistance and support during the search.

"Detectives do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner."
