Van driver arrested after man dies in crash

A van driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a collision with a pedestrian.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Ridgeway Avenue and Hagley Road in Halesowen this morning (23 January).

On arrival they discovered a 45-year-old man multiple serious injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 24-year-old driver was uninjured following the crash and remains in custody.

Police are appealing for anyone with information and dashcam footage to contact them on 101 anytime quoting log 326 of 23 January.

We've launched an investigation into the circumstances of this collision.

"I'd ask anyone who saw what happened and hasn't already spoken to us, to contact me or my team as soon as possible.

"A man has sadly lost his life, his family have been informed and our specialist officers will provide support to them.

"If you saw anything or have dashcam footage please contact us."

Crews arrived to discover a man, who was the pedestrian, with multiple serious injuries following the collision.

“Ambulance staff performed specialist trauma care and administered advanced life support at the scene.

“However, despite their best efforts, it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
