The music festival was due to take place from June 12 to June 14 at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

In a statement posted to their website and social media, it was announced that the festival will no longer be taking place this year because of the "unprecedented situation."

People have been assured that the festival will still take place in 2021.

Please rest assured we will be back next year.

"Now, more than ever, we need the Download spirit to thrive and offer support to those that need it most.

"We’ll do our best to put together an amazing line up for you in 2021 and can’t wait to see you all then.

"Thank you, as ever, for your continued support."

They added ticket holders for this year's festival will be contacted soon for a refund or alternatively they will be able to retain their ticket for next year.

People should only contact their ticket agents about this if they hadn't received communication from them over email in five days, as they are particularly busy at this time.
