A police officer has a stern warning to people who are gathering in a park on his beat.

Sergeant Dave Gott from Leicestershire Police who patrols around the Belgrave area wanted to remind people to stay at home.

The officer was stood in Cossington Street Park and said he spotted a group of elderly men in suits who pretended they were doing exercises when he came near them.

He said this was 'not a time to socialise' and if you wanted to do so, then do it via social media.

Police were granted new powers to enforce the Government lockdown guidelines on Thursday (March 26).

Sergeant Gott said if you venture to the park then you may be at risk of spreading the coronavirus to the elderly population in the area.

He added if we only go out for essential trips then 'we are going to stay safe'.
