More than 100 football clubs have signed a letter to the Football Association, criticising its decision to void the 2019-20 season at non-league and grassroots level.
The FA decided to void the season for non-league divisions below the National League and National League North and South, and for women’s football below the Women’s Super League and Championship, due to the coronavirus outbreak. It says the decision was made by the leagues and supported by the FA Board and FA Women’s Board.
However, many Midlands teams say they haven't been consulted and they believe it's a 'hasty' decision with 'critical financial implications'. Among those who've signed the letter are:
- Coventry United FC
- Wolverhampton Casuals FC
- Leicester Road FC
- Tamworth FC
- Stourbridge FC
- Quorn FC
- Melton Town
- Walsall Wood FC
The FA says the decision has now gone to the FA Council for ratification. It adds: "We fully support the decision they come to during these challenging and unprecedented circumstances for English football.”
