Local bookshop want Amazon to start paying tax

The owners of a local independent bookshop from the Midlands have set up an online petition to force Amazon to start paying tax on its UK earnings.

Frances and Keith Smith set up bookshops in Warwick and Kenilworth in 2004. They say they're facing unfair competition from on-line giant Amazon as they are able to under-cut High Street prices because they don't pay UK tax.

Mr and Mrs Smith say businesses like theirs are being forced under by firms whose profit margins are artificially inflated by tax avoidance.

The online campaign has had just over 7,500 signatures in a week.
