Thomas Telford School celebrating achievement on GCSE results day

As pupils across the West Midlands get their GCSE results this morning, one school in Telford will be celebrating an extra special achievement.

Thomas Telford School today becomes the first comprehensive school in the country where every year 11 student has achieved the benchmark of at least 5 GCSEs at Grades A* to C, including Maths and English.

100% of pupils at the following schools in England had pupils with five good GCSEs (five A*-C passes). The average GCSE point score per pupil ranges from 816.3 at Colyton Grammar School to 684.1 in the tenth ranked school in Headington.

Midlands headteacher tells MPs of his anger at GCSE grades

Mike Griffiths, the head of Northampton School for Boys told a committee of MPs he saw a 17% drop in achievement compared to 2011.

Pupils at Landau Forte college in Derby also received lower grades than expected.

MPs have been hearing from teachers across the country about the disruption caused by the lowering of grades.

But Glenys Stacey from Ofqual, the country's exam regulator, defended what had happened. More details on the ITV National website
