One of the UK’s largest food festivals gets underway

The annual East Midlands Food Festival, which takes place in Melton Mowbray, is getting underway this weekend. It is now in its 14th year, and is one of the UK's largest regional food festivals.

There will be around 200 stands showcasing the best food and drink in the East Midlands. These will include the traditional Melton Mowbray Pork Pies.

There will be talks, tastings and demonstrations in the Food Theatre with entertainment from a Ukulele band and local Gospel Choir.

Organisers say they are expecting record numbers at the Melton Mowbray Food Festival this weekend.

More than 160 food and drink producers from across the East Midlands, UK and Ireland are expected to exhibit at this year’s event.

Now in its 13th consecutive year, the Festival is one of the largest in the Midlands.

As well as the old favourites including the world-famous Melton Mowbray Pork Pies and Stilton Cheese, all produced locally, there will be many new stands with delicious food and drink for people to see, taste and buy.”

This Saturday some of the best pie makers in the country will be hoping to be crowned Supreme Champion in the Great British Pie Festival grand finale.

Pie producers will be coming to Melton Mowbray showcasing their multi-award winning game and meat pies to deliciously sweet fruit pies. There’ll also be an opportunity for visitors to buy the finest pies that the country has to offer at the festival. There’ll be live music and dancing to keep visitors entertained throughout.

“We are hoping that the event will become the grand finale of both British Pie Week and the British Pie Awards, by providing the public with the opportunity to buy some of the UK’s most acclaimed pies. We will be hijacking the Market Place to celebrate everything that’s good about pies !”
