David Parsons resigns from Leicestershire County Council

David Parsons, the Leader of Leicestershire County Council, has resigned.

The move follows a 'no confidence' vote from his own Conservative group, after questions were raised about his travel expenses.

That matter has now been referred to Leicestershire Police. Mr Parsons has said that he will co-operate with police.

Meanwhile, it is expected that Cllr Nicholas Rushton will assume the leadership of the Conservative group ahead of a group election in a fortnight’s time.
