20-year-old sentenced for trying to rob taxi driver at knifepoint

A 20-year-old man has been sent to a young offenders' institution for three years and eight months for attempting to rob a taxi driver.

James Bancroft, of Allenton, was sentenced to 32 months for attempted robbery and 12 months for having a knife in public, to be served consecutively.

The taxi driver suffered cuts to his face and fingers after he was threatened with the knife.

Mr Bancroft's fingerprints were found inside the taxi, which he fled from after the attack.
