Plans to turn the Philpott house into a memorial garden in tribute to the six children who died there have been axed in favour of a new house development.
Derby City Council says the plans to build new homes on the site of the former Philpott home instead of a memorial garden for the Philpott children, was the majority decision by people living in the surrounding area.
Councillor Baggy Shanker, Cabinet Member for Housing and Advice states,
“I am very happy that together with the local community we have come to a conclusion about the preferred outcome of 18/20 Victory Road...We will now proceed with the formal planning process to make this happen continuing to work with local residents as we move forward.”
The council says the consultation was done in two stages - with all houses in the vicinity of the property contacted through a combination of letters and visits.
