Hereford Cathedral receives £300,000 boost

A £300,000 grant has been awarded to a major restoration project to replace the roofing at Hereford's historic cathedral.

Hereford Cathedral has been awarded a £300,000 grant to go towards restoration works Credit:

The money provided from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repair Fund will be used to start works on three of Hereford Cathedral's roofs.

The announcement has been welcomed by the cathedral’s dean, who said officials were now working to secure an extra £120,000 of funding for work on the cathedral's fourth roof.

Keeping our roofs in good order and the building weather proof is essential but it is work which is deeply unattractive to many funders.

This fund will not only enable us to undertake vital work but, we hope, it will also encourage others to look at supporting us in this area of restoration.
