A former Nottingham lay preacher has been charged with a series of historic sexual offences against children.

Samuel Nugent, 85, of Lyn Gilzean Court, off St Ann’s Well Road, will appear at Nottingham magistrates’ court on Tuesday 12 May, charged with four counts of rape and six counts of indecent assault.

The charges relate to three female victims, who were all under the age of 16 at the time the alleged offences were committed between 1970 and 1981, when Nugent was a lay preacher and church elder at the Seventh Day Adventists Church in St Ann’s.
