A man will appear in court this morning charged in connection with an attack on Mormon bishop David Charmbury last weekend.

Harley Heyes, 36 of Bluebell Drive, Chelmsley Wood, was charged this morning with assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent, taking a vehicle by force and having no insurance.

He will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today.

Mr Charmbury, aged 45, was attacked as he opened up his church in Clopton Crescent at around 9am on Sunday 16 August. He suffered serious head injuries and his Mazda CX5 Sport car was stolen, although it was recovered a short time later.

He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
