Officers are dealing with an incident in Hereford where a World War II military shell has been found.

The shell was found today (22 February) on Holme Lacy Road in Hereford following some excavation work on a site. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit have been called and a 100m cordon has been put in place in the surrounding area.

Holme Lacy Road has been closed in both directions from the roundabout at Gate House Road to Fordshill Road until further notice.

Inspector Jerry Coyd said:

The cordon and road closure has been put in place as a precaution and we are working with explosive experts to remove the shell from the area.

We hope to have this resolved as quickly as possible.
