A flag flies at half mast outside the Island Hall

The President of the States of Alderney has offered 'heartfelt condolences' to those affected by the atrocity in Nice last night.

Stuart Trought was attending a function at the home of Sylvie Bermann, the UK's French Ambassador, last night but he had left by the time the attack happened.

He has passed on condolences on behalf of the island and its residents to her.

We are deeply saddened to once again be in the position of offering our heartfelt condolences to the French people in the wake of another cowardly, terrible, terrorist atrocity. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this dreadful attack in Nice. We will do everything we can to maintain solidarity with our French neighbours.

Stuart Trought, President of Alderney
