Global car hire firm makes Channel Islands gaffe

The photo has since been pulled from the website Credit:

One of the world's biggest international car hire firms, Avis, has made a gaffe in their latest online advertising campaign.

The company's summer promotion on their website shows a picture of Sark, but the company seemed to be unaware the island is one of the few places in the world where cars are banned.

They also advertise the fact that tourists can "board a ferry with your hire car to the island of Sark - just 55 minutes away".

Only tractors, horse-drawn vehicles and bicycles are permitted on Sark.

Since the blunder has been pointed out, the photo has been changed and the company are making a donation to the new Sark Sanctuary.
