Jersey's Health Minister has signed off an order for a new law to be drafted to enforce plain tobacco packaging.
It comes as part of the States of Jersey's tobacco strategy which was was revised late last year.
The intervention hopes to support a number of actions that aims to reduce smoking and tobacco related harm by reducing the promotion appeal of tobacco packaging.
The Director of Public Health Policy, Martin Knight, says he hopes the change will lead to a "smoke free generation" in the island.
The States of Jersey say they would also like to coordinate with Guernsey in developing similar regulations that ensure "consistency in compliance" for tobacco supplied to both islands.
