Ross Allen and Dave Rihoy each scored twice as Guernsey FC beat East Grinstead Town 4-2 at Footes Lane on the opening day of the season.

The Green Lions fell behind inside five minutes, but were level soon after when Allen rifled in after seeing his free-kick blocked by the wall.

Allen then put Guernsey in front, beating the goalkeeper at his near post from a tight angle.

But East Grinstead levelled just before half-time as Marcus Elliot got his second of the afternoon.

GFC went back ahead after the break, Allen turning provider for last season’s top-scorer Rihoy to side-foot home from close range.

Rihoy scored again in the closing stages as Tony Vance’s men made the perfect start to the new campaign.

It’s pleasing to get a win for the crowd, and the players as well, and everyone’s motivation. We’ve got a tough away game on Wednesday night, but we’ll enjoy today. Because we were at home - a winnable game we felt - we picked the players that were going to be a little more dynamic and try and open them up. Ross has been on fire since the Island Games, it’s hard to believe he had an operation about four weeks ago. I thought he did well, Matt Loaring was very good up there as well. His movement allowed Ross to be good.
