Rented homes in Jersey will now have to meet minimum safety and hygiene standards after a law has been passed by the States.
The new law will also mean winter lets and staff accommodation will now be classed as 'rented accommodation'.
To meet the new standards, homes must:
- Meet minimum safety standards
- Be in a reasonable state of repair
- Have reasonably modern facilities and services
- Have efficient heating and effective insulation
Stewart Petrie, Director of Environmental Health, says the law will help more vulnerable residents have better accommodation.
