Plans for fixed charge for Guernsey's waste collection scrapped

Plans to remove a possible £116 standing charge for all householders in Guernsey have succeeded.

The amendment from Deputy Peter Roffey was aimed at removing the fixed costs of the new waste strategy for islanders, instead funding the capital projects for the scheme from the Capital Reserve.

Deputy Roffey labelled the potential standing charge as 'regressive' and 'hugely unfair'.

The poorer single households of this island would have been absolutely hammered by this new poll tax.
