Jersey BMX rider Alex Coleborn is the first person from an extreme sport to be shortlisted for Channel Islands Sports Personality of the Year in its 16-year history.

With the sport set to make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, the former Les Quennevais pupil put himself in contention for Team GB selection with his performances in 2017, taking second place at the inaugural UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in China.

He was always riding at a much higher level than everyone else. I remember him learning tricks, something that would take a normal person weeks, he'd get it within a couple of tries. It was amazing to see. Last year he came second at the World Championships, that's as big as you get in BMX. He is one of the best riders in the world so it's amazing to have someone like that come from Jersey.
