Workplaces in Guernsey are being encouraged to send staff for fire marshal training by the Guernsey Fire Service.

The service provides the specific workplace training to promote fire safety among businesses in the island.

Staff will have the chance to learn to correct responses to controlled fires and will see real examples of household appliances be set alight, highlighting how quickly a fire can take hold and the importance of a good response time.

The course covers a range of training including understanding fire alarm systems, evacuation procedures and how to use a fire extinguisher on different types of fire.

48 courses were held during 2017 with 446 islanders completing the training.

After training is complete the fire marshal certification is valid for three years for either the person completing the course or the workplace they represent.
