Six million litres of water were wasted in Jersey last week as a result of the cold weather.

Jersey Water say they were forced to raise production to summer levels after pipes burst around the island in the freezing conditions.

The equivalent of the contents of two-and-a-half Olympic-size swimming pools was lost.

Thousands of homes in the UK had their supplies cut off last week, with bottled water being delivered to some residents.

In the last ten to 15 years since I have been at the company this is the worst cold period I can remember for burst pipes.
