Anita Tavares and Thomas Harris have won this year's Sid Guy Awards, which recognise the most promising young footballers in Jersey.

The two sixteen-year-olds were selected by their coaches at the Jersey FA's Player Development Centre for girls and Centre of Excellence for boys.

Tavares, who plays for St Peter Ladies, has progressed through the age groups and is now training with Jersey's senior squad.

It's an amazing feeling and such an honour to win this award because I know that top players win this award every year, and it just shows that the level of commitment I've shown has really paid off. I'm constantly developing and I really hope that I have the opportunity to play professionally some day.

Harris is a midfielder for St Clement and recently captained Jersey to victory in the U16 Muratti at Springfield.

He has also been with the island's development programme from the age of 12 and could feature for the U18s in Guernsey in May.

It's obviously a very proud moment when you look back at the past and see the players that have won it so it's a big moment for me. It's good to be a young player in Jersey at the moment. We've got the Centre of Excellence, training each Monday and playing against academies which gives us good experience.
