Alderney's first same-sex marriage has taken place this afternoon, after the legislation came into effect earlier this week.

Dits Preece and Allen Jones tied the knot at their home in Platte Saline.

The newlywed couple then led a cavalcade of cars around the island in an open top Voltswagen Beetle as those in town cheered and serenaded them.

The couple, who have been together for 15 years, will both take the surname 'Jones'.

People have been saying you will be making history, but we’re not doing it for making history, we’re doing it because we do want to be the first couple on Alderney to get married and – in our own home which is wonderful.

– Dits Jones

It’s been a long time coming, the amount of wedding cakes we’ve had to throw away just waiting for the occasion to come along and all of a sudden it’s here! It’s just brilliant.
