Pet owners are being warned not to walk their dogs in the middle of the day after young dog died due to heatstroke yesterday.
The dog was out walking during the early afternoon and was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties, but died before arriving.
New Era Veterinary Hospital in Jersey have posted a warning on Facebook to dog owners, asking them not to walk their dogs during the hottest part of the day.
Other tips to avoid heatstroke include:
Avoid exercising your dog when it is hot
Provide shady rest spots when walking
Allow regular access to water (small amounts and often)
Use cool mats and fans when travelling, provide fresh water
Bear in mind dogs that like to carry balls can overheat quicker as they can't pant as efficiently
If you think your pet is suffering from heatstroke, call your vet as soon as possible
