Jersey Post provides model for UK Government loneliness strategy

A scheme set up by Jersey Post, in which postmen and women check in on vulnerable members of the community, is being taken on by the Royal Mail in the UK.

The Call and Check Scheme was first trialed in three Jersey parishes, but is soon being rolled out across the island.

The checks aim to lend a helping hand to islanders who may have come out of hospital, the elderly or people who are isolated.

Now up to 125,000 UK posties will also check up on members of the public during their usual delivery rounds as part of the Prime Minister's loneliness strategy.
