Jersey Airport is aiming to be a leader in aviation technology by having the first certified remote digital tower in the British Isles by December.

The new tower has started live operational trials, involving controlling air traffic from the facility.

It allows the ATC service for the runway to be provided from any location to any location and can use infra-red to improve visibility of aircraft in bad weather.

The Ports of Jersey say this is "a major technological step forward for aviation" and plan to use it for business development by offering similar opportunities to other UK airports.
