One in 10 islanders with disabilities say the often or always have difficulty going into or moving around buildings and using facilities.

That's one of a number of findings in a survey commissioned by ITV Channel Television. The result are being published today on the International Day for People with Disabilities.

It also showed that across the islands people find shops in town or on the high street the most difficult spaces to access, with restaurants and cafes the second most challenging.

Earlier this year, Guernsey charity Access for All launched the Accessible Town Project to improve the accessibility of shops for customers.

The project is made up of a series of special events, such as Purple Tuesday, and also included training staff to accommodate hidden disabilities such as hearing impairment or autism.
