Jersey schools and services could be severely disrupted as staff walk out today

Credit: ITV Channel TV

School nurseries and parts of the health service could be severely disrupted this morning as hundreds of civil servants are expected to walk out.

It's in response to a below-inflation pay offer for 2018/19.

On Thursday nurses, midwives and manual workers received revised offers from the States Employment Board.

Civil servants, teachers and uniformed services have already had their offer imposed on them.

An attempt to use States reserves to fund bigger wage rises for all States workers was defeated in the States last night (Thursday 6th December).

We hope to get the message across that staff are absolutely disgusted with the way that they've been treated.

– Terry Renouf, Prospect union

The walk out is planned from 09:00 until 11:00 on Friday 7th December.
