No risk of public sector shutdown, says States Employment Board amid strike action

Credit: ITV Channel TV

Constable Richard Buchanan, the Deputy Chair of the States Employment Board, says the island is not at risk of a public sector shutdown, despite hundreds of States staff taking industrial action today.

Civil servants, teaching assistants and health workers gathered in Liberation Square to demonstrate against a below-inflation 2019 pay deal offered by the States.

Constable Buchanan says the Employment board thinks it is "unlikely" that nurses and members of the uniformed services will also strike, as the board is "close to an agreement" with them.
