Civil servants in Jersey have taken to Liberation Square to strike against a below-inflation pay deal offered by the States for 2019.

Strikers include teaching assistants and health staff meaning that schools and services could be disrupted.

Yesterday the States rejected a proposal from Deputy Geoff Southern to use reserve States funds to solve the ongoing issue.

The vote was close with just one vote deciding the result.

The head of the States Employment Board, Senator Tracey Vallois, abstained from the vote.
