100 bags of rubbish removed from Channel Island beaches over the weekend

The equivalent of almost 100 bags full of rubbish and 153 plastic bottles were removed from island beaches over the weekend.

Hundreds of volunteers took part in the Big Channel Islands Beach Clean, removing litter from 12 beaches.

Items such as cotton bud sticks, wet wipes and balloons were all found, as well as some more obscure items including a cat scratching post, a kitchen knife and a toy soldier.

The event was coordinated by various groups working together, including the Alderney Wildlife Trust, La Société Guernesiaise, the Surfers Against Sewage rep in Herm, Littlefeet Environmental Jersey, Sark School, Sark Société and Sark Community Blooms.
