A woman remains in hospital after being found unconscious in a flat fire in St Helier.

Three fire engines, two ambulances and police attended the scene in Hilary Street after the smoke alarm in a fourth floor flat had alerted neighbours.

Firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus due to the smoke and found the woman unconscious.

Fire crews worked through the night to extinguish the fire and clear the flat of smoke.

The woman's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening but she remains in hospital.

An investigation is now underway to identify the cause of the fire but police are not treating it as suspicious.
