A petition is calling for Sark's Le Maseline Harbour to be made a 'Port of Entry'.

It has been started by Sark's Chamber of Commerce, who say it would provide a "much needed stimulus" to the tourism economy.

The process would involve a change in the law, which would need to be made by the island's Chief Pleas.

Whilst the petition speaks to a specific (a change in the law), we also feel it demonstrates a genuine desire amongst a substantial number of Sark residents (146 to date) for a Customs presence on Sark.

These proposals need to be thoroughly and honestly debated, with all stakeholders and interested parties consulted.
