Islanders have one week left to share their views on Jersey's divorce reform, civil partnerships and age of marriage laws.

People are being asked to complete an online survey before the closing date on 22nd February.

The main changes that are being suggested are:

  • Scrapping the three year ban on divorce - currently, spouses have to be married for three years before filing for divorce.
  • Moving to a no fault divorce - where couples can get divorced without having to prove that their partner was at fault.
  • Introducing joint filing - at the moment the law states one person must divorce the other, even when they both agree their marriage has ended
  • Removing the ability to contest a divorce.

The Government of Jersey are encouraging all islanders to have their say.
