Women's rights, gender equality and promoting women in politics are some of the themes States Members will prioritise on Commonwealth Day today.

States members also want to engage young people in politics and promote LGBT+ rights.

Today politicians will gather at the Cenotaph in St Helier to join in the celebrations happening throughout the world.

Jersey's branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) wants to "raise awareness and understanding" of Jersey across the Commonwealth.

The organisation, led by the Queen, aims to "promote democratic values" throughout the world.

This year is especially important to us as we celebrate 100 years since women got the vote in Jersey.

– Deputy Carolyn Labey, Chairwoman of the Jersey CPA

Jersey is hosting the Commonwealth Women's Conference for the British Islands and Mediterranean region later this year.
